Smile and Dial is a slang term for telemarketing, i.e. making unsolicited, cold calls to leads.

As well as cold-calling in general, ‘smile and dial’ can also refer to the technique of literally smiling when making a sales call. Smiling changes the tone of your voice, making it more pleasant and less monotone. As a result, prospects are more likely to listen to what you’re saying.
