Sales Glossary > Outreach

Outreach is the process of proactively contacting prospective customers to create engagement and generate new business.

Sales outreach is typically performed via email, over the phone, through text messages, or social media to connect with both inbound and outbound leads.

When used to connect with prospects who have no previous contacts with your business (i.e. outbound leads), it’s usually referred to as cold outreach.

Related terms:

  • Permission-based outreach is a common inbound sales tactic that, unlike cold outreach, requires the prospect’s consent to be contacted by the sales rep.
  • Intent-based outreach is an approach where sales reps use buyer intent signals to tailor their messages and tactics accordingly.
